IAM Local 1746 Helps Kids Start the School Year Right

For the fourth year, the IAM Local 1746 Women’s Committee has again partnered with East Hartford Public School in Connecticut to help with a backpack rally event by collecting donations, packing backpacks, and participating as a vendor on the distribution day.

“This collection and event takes many volunteers to make it a success,” said Local 1746 Women’s Committee Chair Therese Hervieux.

Six members of Local 1746 volunteered to pack bags and run the local’s station at the rally, and many IAM members and staff, including the IAM Eastern Territory and the IAM Communications Department, generously donated school supplies and funds for the cause.

Local 1746 volunteers handed out thousands of IAM union pencils, pens, rulers, activity books, stickers, and other items at the rally, and the children were excited about the back-to-school gifts.

“Thank you to everyone who donated or helped in any way, including Travis Williams from Local 743 for the large EZ up, Sue Carreira and Kathy Williams who did an amazing 2nd shift monetary collection, Tony Walter, Ryan Tyrol, Howie Huestis, Taylor Salman, Chelsea Pullen, Ileana Juarez and Chris Inzitari who helped make this event a success,” said Hervieux. “Every year volunteers step up to help and we could not do it without them.”

“The Eastern Territory’s Local 1746 Women’s Committee does an awesome job of getting involved with their community, making the union known as a helping organization,” said IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan. “We’re proud to have such generous and thoughtful members and leaders in our territory. Thank you, Local 1746 Women’s Committee, for the work you do!”
