Broward County Area Local has secured another proclamation in the APWU’s Proclamation Campaign! This one is signed by Rex Hardin, the mayor of the City of Pompano Beach, FL, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States Postal Service.
Broward County Area Local Clerk Craft Director Gustavo Aguilar contacted the Mayor’s Office by email and received a positive response within just a few days. By Nov. 6, they had secured a signed proclamation from Mayor Hardin. He was eager to join in on the celebration of this anniversary milestone and honor the public mission of the Postal Service, serving the many homes and businesses throughout the popular vacation destination, located just a few miles north of Fort Lauderdale.
Aguilar, who is a graduate of APWU’s Leadership Institute – Class 3, applied lessons he learned in the program by creating a handout sharing his experience about the process, and providing a checklist of suggested steps for other APWU members who may want to secure a proclamation in Broward County, which is Florida’s second-most populous county after Miami-Dade County.
The local also held an event celebrating the proclamation signing, where members gathered to celebrate the occasion and to recognize the work they do as union members and postal workers.
“The City of Pompano Beach recognizes that the local presence of postal workers and postal facilities has been an essential part of our civic infrastructure – supporting small businesses, facilitating government services, and contributing to the quality of life and economic vitality of our community,” said Director Aguilar. “They also wish to honor the men and women, past and present, who have served in the USPS with dedication, in fair weather and foul, ensuring that every address in our region, state, and nation remains reachable and our national communications network remains resilient.”
