The IAM Virginia State Council convened in Richmond, bringing together IAM Union leaders and members to strengthen political engagement, align priorities and build power for working people across the Commonwealth.
Council leaders highlighted the strength and diversity of IAM membership in Virginia—from air transport and rail to federal service—while underscoring the urgency of the political moment. With redistricting impacts and critical midterm elections on the horizon, the session focused on mobilizing members to engage, educate and turn out.
Speakers addressed key challenges facing IAM members, including ongoing attacks on federal workers’ collective bargaining rights, and outlined opportunities to expand organizing across the Southern Territory. The council also emphasized the importance of solidarity across the labor movement.
The Spring session made one thing clear: building worker power in Virginia will require a united, energized membership ready to take action at every level—from the shop floor to the ballot box.
