Growing up in a low-income, single-parent family, I never believed that personal wealth was something I could achieve. Having investments, taking vacations and being able to plan for retirement beyond Social Security all seemed like luxuries that were out of reach for people like me and families like mine. I was determined to break that cycle, and as I entered adulthood, I endeavored to understand how I could avoid the financial pitfalls that challenged my family.
As I built a solid financial foundation for myself, I helped friends, family members and the small companies that I worked for plan for their futures as well. My path to becoming a financial advisor was far from a straight line. After nearly 20 years of geological archeology and geotechnical engineering work, I made the decision to shift my focus to financial advising at the suggestion of my own Edward Jones financial advisor.
After completing a master's degree in finance, I joined Edward Jones in 2016. I was drawn to the firm because of my experience as a client. Edward Jones is the only firm that was willing to work with me when I was young, had little money to invest and save, and needed to learn strategies to build the kind of financial stability and future I envisioned for my family. It is a privilege to pay it forward by working with individuals, families and small businesses who would otherwise be unable to get the personal attention of a financial advisor. Building relationships with clients to understand their goals and taking the time to meet each person where they are helps me create financial strategies that are achievable and appropriate for their lives.
