Service & Solidarity Spotlight: USW Health Care Workers at Edgewood Sierra Hills Ratify First Contract, Secure Wage Increases
Working people across the United States regularly step up to help out our friends, neighbors and communities during these trying times. In our Service & Solidarity Spotlight series, we’ll showcase one of these stories every day. Here’s today’s story.
After a hard-fought two-year battle against an aggressive anti-union employer, roughly 40 health care workers at Edgewood Sierra Hills in Cheyenne, Wyoming, ratified their first union contract with the United Steelworkers (USW).
The one-year agreement includes a 2.75% wage increase, an increase in weekend shift differential, a perfect attendance bonus, training pay, a scheduling committee, safe staffing language and more.
Health care workers at Edgewood Sierra Hills began organizing in 2024 and faced an aggressive anti-union campaign from management. That December, workers launched a 10-day unfair labor practice strike against parent company Edgewood Healthcare in 2024.
Employees represented in the contract include nurses, housekeepers, CNAs, transporters, cooks, dining assistants and more.
