Southern Territory Leadership Visits Local 774 Textron Aviation Strike Line

Leaders from the IAM Southern Territory visited Local 774’s strike line at Textron Aviation this week to show solidarity and support. As the strike enters its second week, the presence of IAM leadership underscores the importance of unity in the ongoing fight for fair wages and improved working conditions.

After six weeks of negotiations, IAM members voted on September 21 to reject the company’s last, best, and final offer, citing overall compensation and benefits.

“Our members are the heart of Textron Aviation’s success; their dedication, expertise, and passionate drive have elevated Textron’s continued success,” said IAM Southern Territory General Vice President Craig Martin. “The members of Local 774 are more than deserving of industry-leading compensation.”

A post-strike survey reiterates to all parties involved that the overall compensation package must be as robust and as legendary as the Textron products’ 774 members build.

The stakes are high for the members taking a stand for themselves, their families’ future, and the local economy. Many workers have shared stories about their challenges, but one reverberating sticking point that seems to dominate is the rising costs of living and the need for affordable healthcare.

“The solidarity and commitment for a fair contract in Wichita is very optimistic,” said IAM Southern Territory Chief of Staff Reggie Dixon. “We will continue to support this membership in their fight for well-earned wages and benefits.”

The impact of an extended strike moves beyond the factory gates. The Wichita community, heavily reliant on the aviation industry, often feels the ripple effects of prolonged work stoppages. Still, many local businesses also support IAM Members in their quest for fairness in employment wages.

The company has not communicated any intent to return to the table this week; meanwhile, the IAM negotiating team and leadership are committed to doing so.
