Teamsters Extend Picket Lines to Every Bigfoot Location

(BEND, Ore.) – Teamsters have escalated pressure on Bigfoot Beverages by extending picket lines to its distribution facility in Bend, Oregon. The extension of the picket lines is part of an unfair labor practice (ULP) strike led by more than 240 members of Teamsters Local 206 and Teamsters Local 324.

“We’re not going anywhere until this company comes back to the table with a reasonable offer,” said Chris Muhs, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 324. “Our picket lines remain strong, and these brave workers will do whatever it takes to maintain their fully funded pension plan and union protections.”

“This company broke the law by trying to eliminate a core pension benefit and now it’s lying to anyone who will listen about the supposed benefits of its inferior 401(k) plan,” said Geoff Stewart, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 206. “What Bigfoot is offering Teamsters is a pay cut of at least $3,300 per year –that’s it. We will never accept this.”

Bigfoot distributes Pepsi products and craft beers throughout the Pacific Northwest. Teamsters at the company work as drivers, salespersons, service technicians, merchandisers, and vending and warehouse workers. Teamsters have been on strike at Bigfoot since Sept. 19. Active picket lines are also operating around the clock in Eugene, Springfield, Newport, Roseburg and Coos Bay, Oregon.

“It’s incredibly unfair that after 13 years of hard work and loyalty to Bigfoot, this company is trying to take away my pension,” said Lance Johnson, a Local 324 member from the Newport location. “I’ve dedicated myself to this job. I’m going to retire with the security that I’ve earned.”

Since the strike began there has been no movement toward a fair contract by company owners. Bigfoot has illegally threatened striking workers with termination and permanent replacement.

“Bigfoot Teamsters aren’t going to be intimidated by intimidation tactics. Our members will hold the line for the dignity and respect they deserve,” said Mark Davison, Teamsters Western Region International Vice President and President of Joint Council 37.
