CALVERT CITY, Ky., Nov. 1, 2024 – Approximately 174 members of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local 2781 (District 1888) at Westlake Vinyls in Calvert City, Ky., began a strike against the employer at midnight on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024.
On Wednesday, Oct. 30, members voted overwhelmingly against the company’s proposed contract and to commence a strike. IAM Local 2781 represents chemical and maintenance operators at the facility.
The IAM Union released the following statement:
“IAM Local 2781 members at Westlake Vinyls are skilled, dedicated workers who have sacrificed for years to make this company successful. We are simply demanding a fair contract that compensates our members fairly for their work. The IAM will provide all resources necessary to obtain a contract that is in the best interests our membership, their families and the Calvert City community.”
