Update: CDL Medical Certification Integration

June 18, 2025The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) adopted a rule change in 2015, along with many other components of this rule change, was the requirement that the Medical Examiner who performs a Commercial Driver Certification physical will electronically notify the commercial operator’s state driver license agency. This part of the rule change had been postponed multiple times. This additional part of the rule change will go into effect on June 23, 2025. When a commercial driver has been given a physical, those results will be transmitted to the FMCSA within 24 hours and sent by the FMCSA to the State Driver’s License Agency (SDLA). There will no longer be a need to provide the medical examiner certificates to the state driver’s license agency. When getting a CDL physical, the driver should ask for a copy to carry with them for the first few weeks. *USPS has not notified the union or our members of these mandatory changes.
