I learned my love of investing from my grandmother. She was a penny pincher and a yard sale shopper. She taught me that the secret to investing is putting a little away over a long period of time. Even though she lived on little more than my grandfather's military pension, she left a legacy of close to a million dollars to each of her five sons. Grandma taught me that you don’t need to have a million-dollar paycheck to become a millionaire, you just need time and discipline.
The second thing she taught me was a love of growing things. She had an apple tree that was grafted to grow seven varieties of apples, which inspired me to study viticulture at Cal Poly SLO. It was only after I graduated that I learned the vinegar smell of wineries made me nauseous. I credit Cal Poly with teaching me that even the best laid plans need to be reviewed and adjusted from time to time.
I moved to Reno in 2012 and after a few years I attended University of Nevada-Reno, where I received my master's degree in the field of finance. My studies covered everything from portfolio construction and real estate finance to options strategies and bond durations.
I joined Edward Jones shortly after graduating because their culture reflected my belief that the client should always come first.
