MAJ(R) Gary Miller started his career in insurance over 44 years ago, joining his father Ray Miller, Jr.’s long standing Homeowners & Auto insurance practice, which Ray established in 1948 out of his home in Germantown, PA. Gary’s Grandfather, Ray Miller, Sr. of Germantown, began his professional career in insurance in 1920, as a Life Insurance Broker, serving over 45 years with Metropolitan Life Ins. Co., beginning the Miller Family insurance tradition, now spanning 4 Miller generations.
In April 1954, Ray Jr. moved the agency to Jenkintown, PA across the street from the present–day Abington Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Gary’s daughter Anne, joined the agency in 2013, representing the 4th generation of the Miller Family serving in the insurance industry. The Miller Financial Group has been operating in Spring House since 1985, as an independent insurance agency, representing multiple insurance companies licensed in the states of PA, NJ, NY, DE, MD, VA, NC, MA, CT, FL, TX, VT, NH, DC & NE.
Gary graduated from West Point with a BS Engineering degree. Upon graduation he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Field Artillery, serving over 20 years with the US Army. Gary earned his MBA in Risk Management & Insurance from the Fox School of Business, Temple University, where he served as an Adjunct Professor with the Department of Risk, Insurance, Healthcare Management, a leading & nationally rank undergraduate Risk Management & Insurance program. Gary is a former member of the Dean’s Council, Fox School of Business, and has attained the professional insurance industry designation of a Certified Insurance Counselor, (CIC).
Gary authored an Amazon Best Seller, “Taming Chaos – a Parable on Decision Making,” complimented by “Taming Chaos – Workbook & Leaders Discussion Guide,” which was written to teach young teenagers “How To” make sound decisions when facing “Risk and Uncertainty.” His book had its public release at West Point in February 2017.
Gary has been an active voice within the insurance industry, serving with the Pennsylvania Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association (IIA&B), the PA professional insurance agent & broker’s trade association, as a member of the IIA&B Member Agents Panel MAP. Gary has also served as an expert witness on legal matters involving insurance agents’ professional liability Errors & Omission Claims litigation.
Gary is a past recipient of the Upper Dublin Township’s Citizen of the Year Award, a current member of the Upper Dublin High School Athletic Hall of Fame and a “stand out” athlete at West Point, playing football and baseball. Gary & his wife Carol continue to live in Upper Dublin, Montgomery County, PA having raised 3 children, married with 8 grandchildren.
