IAM Union International President Brian Bryant has appointed Denise Heath as Special Assistant to the International President, effective Feb. 1, 2026.
In her new role, Heath will focus on supporting IAM members covered under the Service Contract Act (SCA)—particularly non-aerospace SCA members—while helping to expand the IAM Union’s presence, strength, and organizing capacity in this critical sector.
SCA members play an essential role in keeping vital federal and contracted services running across the country. Heath’s appointment underscores the IAM’s continued commitment to ensuring these members have strong representation, the resources they need, and a powerful voice on the job and at the bargaining table.
“Denise brings deep experience, dedication, and a clear understanding of the unique challenges facing Service Contract Act workers,” said IAM International President Brian Bryant. “Her leadership will help us better serve our members and continue growing the IAM in this important area.”
Heath, an Arizona native, began her IAM journey as a charter member of IAM Local 2009, which later merged with IAM Local 519, while working as an Air Traffic Controller for Lockheed Martin. Throughout her tenure, Heath held a variety of leadership roles within her Local—Shop Steward, Recording Secretary, Vice President, and more—demonstrating a steadfast commitment to her fellow members.
In 2019, Heath was appointed Business Representative, and in 2021 she was elected President/Directing Business Representative of Local 519. In that role, Heath oversaw more than 80 collective bargaining agreements across four locals in Arizona and southern Nevada, guiding negotiations and contract enforcement while strengthening member engagement. She also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the IAM’s Arizona State Council and was a member of the 2022 International Convention’s Appeals and Grievance Committee.
In October 2023, Heath was appointed as a Special Representative in the IAM’s Aerospace Department, further broadening her experience working with IAM members across the country. In 2024, Heath was appointed an IAM Aerospace Coordinator.
Heath is also deeply committed to developing future union leaders and currently serves as a mentor in the IAM’s Leadership Excellence Assembly of Dedicated Sisters (LEADS) program, helping to nurture the next generation of women labor activists and leaders.
Heath holds a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University as well as an MBA from Colorado Technical University.
As Special Assistant to the International President, Heath will work closely with IAM leadership, departments, and Locals and Districts to strengthen advocacy, organizing, and member engagement among Service Contract Act members—while advancing the IAM’s broader mission of building power for working people.
