Hispanic Heritage Month Profiles: Elizabeth Perez

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, the AFL-CIO will be profiling leaders and activists to spotlight the diverse contributions Hispanics and Latinos have made to the labor movement. Today’s profile features Elizabeth Perez of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).

Elizabeth Perez is a longtime educator and union leader who began her career as a teacher for bilingual and English as a second language students and served for more than 18 years as a UFT chapter leader before becoming the union’s Brooklyn borough representative. A New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) board member and recipient of NYSUT’s Sandy Feldman Outstanding Leadership Award, she has dedicated her career to member advocacy, political action and efforts to strengthen the voice of working people.
