Hispanic Heritage Month Profiles: Teresa D’Asaro

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, the AFL-CIO will be profiling leaders and activists to spotlight the diverse contributions Hispanics and Latinos have made to the labor movement. Today’s profile features Teresa D’Asaro of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW).

Teresa D’Asaro is a fourth-generation union leader with more than 30 years of advocating for Arizona’s working families. Advancing from a rank-and-file member to key leadership roles in UFCW Local 99, she has spearheaded organizing, built labor alliances and championed women’s leadership. Now retired, D’Asaro has served as the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) Greater Western Arizona chapter’s treasurer, UFCW national’s CLUW alternate vice president and Southland Insurance’s community outreach director.
