IAM Celebrates National Apprenticeship Week

The IAM proudly celebrates National Apprenticeship Week, designated by the Biden administration from Nov. 17 through Nov. 23, 2024. This week serves as an important reminder of the vital role that apprenticeship programs play in developing the skilled workforce necessary for a competitive American economy.

“Apprenticeships have been the cornerstone of workforce training for over a century,” said IAM International President Brian Bryant. “They equip workers not only with practical skills but also with the confidence and experience needed to advance in their careers.”

The IAM has long championed apprenticeship training as an alternative to traditional college education, especially in fields where on-the-job experience is essential for success.

“In a rapidly changing job market, apprenticeship programs offer a solution that benefits workers, employers, and the economy as a whole,” said IAM Safety and Health, Apprenticeships, and Scholarships Director Michael Oathout. “These programs ensure that workers meet the highest quality standards while enhancing their professional competencies.”

“We want to highlight the value of skilled trades in our economy,” said Bryant. “These workers not only contribute to their fields but also play a crucial role in keeping America competitive and safe. By supporting apprenticeship programs, we are investing in our nation’s future.”

The IAM’s commitment to apprenticeship training is evident through established programs like the IAM CREST Program, the IAM Apprenticeship Department, and IAM Local and Districts’ initiatives to increase access and opportunities to existing and prospective members so they can enjoy well-paid work with substantial room for professional and salary growth.

To further facilitate this mission, the IAM offers comprehensive resources and assistance to Districts and Locals looking to develop or expand registered apprenticeships. For more information, interested parties are encouraged to contact the Apprenticeship Department at apprenticeships@iamaw.org.
