IAM Local 2018 Stands with TSA Workers Impacted by Government Shutdown

IAM Local 2018 members in Indianapolis stepped up once again for working families – this time supporting federal workers hit hard by the latest government shutdown. As part of the IAM Midwest Territory’s H.E.L.P.S. program, volunteers spent the day at the Gleaner Food Bank packing more than 6,800 frozen and refrigerated meals for TSA workers and their families at Indianapolis International Airport.

With TSA employees required to report to work without pay, many faced immediate food insecurity. IAM Local 2018 members refused to let their neighbors face that struggle alone.

“Our members didn’t think twice,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli. “When working families in our communities struggle, we stand with them. TSA employees keep our airports safe every single day and supporting them in difficult times is simply the right thing to do.”

IAM Local 2018 members demonstrated that union solidarity extends far beyond the shop floor. Their efforts serve to strengthen ties to the community while making a real difference for families in need.

“Seeing our members shoulder to shoulder – sorting food, packing thousands of pounds of groceries for local TSA families – showed once again that solidarity isn’t just a word, it’s an action,” said IAM Local 2018 Directing Business Representative David Gault. “The gratitude from the families we served made the day unforgettable.”

This effort was made possible by the dedication of IAM Local 2018 members, including Gault, Business Representative Chet Robbins, and Executive Secretary Marsh Lewis.

“I want to thank the Gleaner Food Bank team for welcoming us and guiding this work, and to our IAM Local 2018 Executive Committee and community partners whose support makes these events possible,” Gault added.

This community outreach reinforces the IAM Midwest Territory’s long-standing commitment to lifting working people – on the job, at home, and across the neighborhoods our members call home.

Launched in 2017, the IAM H.E.L.P.S. in the Community initiative – Honoring, Engaging, Lifting, Providing and Servicing – continues to provide critical support to communities throughout the Midwest Territory.
