Joint Bargaining Committee (JBC) representatives from the IBEW joined the IAM representatives from GE Haier Appliance Service Technicians from across the country recently at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center. The JBC is preparing for upcoming contract negotiations with GE Appliances, headquarters in Louisville, KY. The JBC Master Agreement represents unionized Service Technicians from the IAM, IBEW, UA and UE who work out of service vans across the country.
The intensive Negotiation Preparation Program brought together shop committee members and negotiating committee representatives for several days of strategic training, research analysis, and coordinated bargaining with multiple unions. The program is designed to ensure JBC unions enter bargaining united, informed, and ready to secure strong contracts for their members.
Participants worked through contract language review, proposal development, costing exercises, and communication planning. A strong emphasis was placed on member engagement ensuring that the priorities at the bargaining table reflect the voices of the membership on the shop floor.
Throughout the program, committees collaborated across locals to identify common challenges and share best practices. From protecting wages and benefits to strengthening job security and workplace protections, the focus remained on building coordinated strategies to address the issues most important to JBC families.
“This training gives our negotiating committees the tools and confidence they need to fight for the best possible agreement,” said IAM Union Collective Bargaining Director Craig Norman. “Preparation is power, and when we walk into negotiations, we do so with a clear strategy and the full strength of our membership behind us.”
The Winpisinger Center, the IAM’s premier training facility, continues to play a critical role in equipping union leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to meet today’s challenges.
