Amtrak has set a historic milestone with an all-time ridership record of 32.9 million passengers during Fiscal Year (FY) 2024. This milestone was achieved due to the hard work and dedication of IAM Rail Division members from IAM District 19 and the Transportation Communications Union (TCU/IAM), who are committed to providing the highest level of service. Amtrak recently invested $4.5 billion into critical infrastructure and fleet projects, further ensuring its operations’ future reliability and efficiency.

“This milestone would not have been possible without the outstanding service provided by our members,” said TCU/IAM National President Artie Maratea. “Their attention to detail and customer-first mindset are crucial to Amtrak’s operations, and we’re thrilled to see our members’ efforts recognized through this record-breaking achievement.”
IAM and TCU/IAM Legislative and Political Departments continue to advocate on Capitol Hill for the safety of our Rail Division members, investments in our nation’s rail infrastructure, and retirement security.
“We are incredibly proud of our members who work tirelessly to ensure passengers reach their destinations safely and on time,” said IAM District 19 Directing General Chair Reece Murtagh. “Their contributions cannot be measured, and these ridership numbers reflect their dedication and professionalism.”
Amtrak’s significant investment will help improve customer experiences, streamline operations, and support the sustainability of rail travel in the United States.
“The historic ridership record achieved by Amtrak this year is a testament to the incredible work of IAM District 19 and TCU/IAM members,” said Josh Hartford, Special Assistant to the International President for the Rail Division. “Our members’ expertise and unwavering commitment to maintaining safety and excellent customer service has paved the way for this milestone. They are the backbone of Amtrak’s success.”
