IAM International President Brian Bryant has appointed Juan Estrada as a Special Representative for the IAM Rail Division. The appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2025.
Estrada was hired as a Locomotive Machinist with Union Pacific Railroad in Los Angeles in 2007. In 2009, he embarked on his leadership journey with the IAM as a committeeman. His leadership skills were recognized when he was elected and served as Local 620 Chairman from 2013 to 2019, representing members in Los Angeles under the Union Pacific Railroad, San Joaquin Valley Railroad and Amtrak.
From 2019 to 2024, Estrada served as the General Chairman for District 19, representing railroad workers from various carriers in the western United States. He held multiple roles during his tenure, including District 19 Educator, Arbitration Review Board member, and Assistant President Directing General Chairman.
“Juan is a natural fit to the leadership roles he has earned during his career,” said Josh Hartford, Special Assistant to the International President for the IAM Rail Division. “We promote leaders based on future potential and past performance, and we expect Juan will do great work for all our rail members in this new position.”
A proud U.S. Marine, he enlisted in 2001. He served tours in Okinawa, Japan and Twenty Nine Palms, Calif. Estrada served a tour in Iraq before being honorably discharged in 2005.
During his time as an IAM leader, Estrada served on the IAM’s Committee on the Future. He is actively involved with the Spanish Leadership Working Group and the IAM Veterans Services Steering Group.
