Momentum Is Building in the APWU Proclamation Campaign, See Local Wins!

This year marks the 250th anniversary of the United States Postal Service, and momentum is building across the country to protect our public Postal Service!

APWU Members are securing official proclamations and resolutions from their mayors, city councils, and county commissions, sending a clear message that the U.S. Mail is not for sale!

How Did They Get These Wins?

It is easier than you might think!

In Miami, Local President Wanda Harris used the strong relationships she has built over the years with local labor leaders and a pro-union mayor to secure a proclamation from the Miami-Dade County Commission.

In Cleveland, the local teamed up with Retiree Chapter President Bruce Jackson to get the ball rolling. As Cleveland Area Local President Nigel Saleem said, “If you don’t ask, you don’t receive. Our retirees are still around and ready to get involved.”

In Columbus, Auxiliary Treasurer Angela Lyshe emailed the City Council after hearing about the campaign on a call, and they were happy to work with her to pass a resolution, which is the same as a proclamation in the city.

You Can Be Next!

As Cleveland Retiree Chapter President Bruce Jackson said, “Anyone can do this! If you’re a voter, it is even easier! Politicians work for us, so reach out and start the relationship with this project if you have not yet already.”

We are asking you to reach out to your local town, city, or county council to pass a proclamation celebrating our public Postal Service and supporting its future.

Every new voice strengthens the consensus that the Postal Service belongs to all of us.
