Service & Solidarity Spotlight: Hofstra Faculty Approve New Five-Year Union Contract

Working people across the United States regularly step up to help out our friends, neighbors and communities during these trying times. In our Service & Solidarity Spotlight series, we’ll showcase one of these stories every day. Here’s today’s story.

Faculty at Hofstra University—who are members of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), an affiliate of AFT—have ratified a new contract.

Union members overwhelmingly approved the agreement last week, securing annual raises of between 3% and 3.5% over the lifetime of the five-year deal.

“Months of hard work, extensive negotiations, and active participation by our membership and community achieved this outcome,” AAUP Hofstra said in a statement. “We thank our members for their participation and unity throughout the entire process; hundreds attended meetings, participated in an on-campus rally, voted to support job actions, signed strike pledges, mobilized their networks to sign a petition to President Poser, shared their views, and took part in the final contract vote.”
