This is the next post in our series that will take a deeper look at each of our allied groups. The series will run weekly until we’ve covered each of the departments. Next up is the Labor Heritage Foundation (LHF).

Name of Organization: Labor Heritage Foundation

Mission: The LHF works to preserve, promote and strengthen the culture, history and arts of the American labor movement through education, media and creative expression. LHF maintains a network of activists, artists and leaders. They perform, speak, provide training and produce materials that are useful for the promotion of the history, culture and importance of the American labor movement.

Current Leadership: Chris Garlock serves as executive director. Jennifer Schwartz serves as accounting officer. Patrick Dixon and Harold Phillips serve as producers.

Current Campaigns/Policy Agenda: LHF produces the “Labor Heritage Power Hour” radio show/podcast and the “Labor History Today” podcast. Each year, LHF brings together labor artists and supporters at the Great Labor Arts Exchange and showcases labor-themed movies at the D.C. Labor FilmFest. The organization also presents the Joe Hill Award and the Solidarity Forever Award, as well as the virtual Labor Grammys and the Labor Oscars. LHF works to keep labor songs alive through its affiliation with the D.C.
