Service & Solidarity Spotlight: IBB Sponsors 5K Charity Run
Working people across the United States regularly step up to help out our friends, neighbors and communities during these trying times. In our Service & Solidarity Spotlight series, we’ll showcase one of these stories every day. Here’s today’s story.
Boilermakers (IBB) Local 92 in Los Angeles recently supported the 5K for Change race, hosted by the Louise W. Calhoun Foundation. An annual event, the 5K raises funds for youth and veteran scholarships and supports community programs.
Local 92 sponsored 20 children to participate in the 5K. Members of the local also volunteered and participated in the race.
“The event filled me with an incredible sense of pride,” said Local 92 Recording Secretary Jamesee Yoakum. “Being able to explain to the next generation that there’s a spot for them in our union and explaining just how much the Boilermakers changed my life and can change theirs gives me great joy that we’re helping build a stronger future.”
