Service & Solidarity Spotlight: Secretary-Treasurer Redmond Speaks at Get-Out-the-Vote Rally in Jacksonville, Fla.

Fred Redmond speaks at a get-out-the-vote rally in Jacksonville, Fla.

Working people across the United States regularly step up to help out our friends, neighbors and communities during these trying times. In our Service & Solidarity Spotlight series, we’ll showcase one of these stories every day. Here’s today’s story.

AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond joined union members and community leaders in Jacksonville, Florida, for a get-out-the-vote rally last week hosted by International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Local 1408 and its president, Warren Smith. Held at the union hall, the event brought together workers, families and supporters, along with Senate candidate Angie Nixon, gubernatorial candidate David Jolly and his running mate, former Rep. Gwen Graham. Redmond urged union members to make their voices heard at the ballot box and elect leaders who will fight for good jobs, better wages and an economy that works for working families. The rally featured music, a community fish fry and a shared commitment to mobilizing working people in the final days before the election.
