On August 26, 2026, the USPS issued a rule to restrict mail-in ballots following a Trump Administration Executive Order issued March 31, 2026. While that rule was paused by injunctions for the 2026 midterm elections, the rule still exists and the Postal Board of Governors has the authority to “pull the rule” and end this once and for all.
Postal workers are demanding that the Postal Board of Governors and the Postmaster General permanently Pull the Rule that threatens to restrict voting-by-mail in future elections.
The Postal Reorganization Act of 1970 created the modern Postal Service as an independent executive agency and stated that: “The exercise of the power of the Postal Service shall be directed by a Board of Governors.”
The USPS should not wait for the courts to rule when its leadership has the power to decide whether to go ahead with the rule or not. It can and should revoke the rule immediately.
