Service & Solidarity Spotlight: Over a Thousand Natural Food Workers in Washington Ratify Strong Contracts

Working people across the United States regularly step up to help out our friends, neighbors and communities during these trying times. In our Service & Solidarity Spotlight series, we’ll showcase one of these stories every day. Here’s today’s story.

Grocery store workers at 16 PCC Community Markets in the greater Seattle area who are represented by United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 3000 have ratified powerful collective bargaining agreements.

The new contracts covering staff in the grocery and meat departments include better wages and benefits, protections for members who may be targeted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), increased premiums for night shift roles, increased employer contribution to workers’ training fund, and more.

“This victory didn’t come easily,” the PCC bargaining team said in their ratification announcement. “The upshot isn’t just an industry-leading contract we’re proud of. Before this campaign, PCC was in danger of sliding into the corporate void. By standing together, we helped slow that slide and reclaim our co-op for the workers and members who built this place. Our fight doesn’t end here. This win provides a foundation we can use to keep building the democratic, worker-powered co-op that PCC members and workers deserve.”
